FORMER RESIDENT
HERE FOR INTERMENT.
______
The body of Elliot Budd, who died at his home at Siloam Springs, Ark., Saturday, morning, March 17, 1917, was brought to Burlington on the north bound M. K. & T. train Monday morning and was laid to rest in Graceland cemetery. Funeral services were held at Siloam Springs Sunday in charge of the minister of the Christian church of which he was a member, and a short service was held at the grave, conducted by Rev. C. L. Howard of the M. E. church. Mr. Budd was born in Indiana March 10, 1841 and at the time of his death was 76 years and 7 days old. He had been in failing health for some time but his last illness lasted only a week. Death was due to cancer of the stomach. Mr. Budd was a veteran of the civil war, serving as a sergeant in Company H, 132nd Indiana Vol. Inf. and was a splendid citizen. He was a man of high character and stood very high wherever he was known. He was a resident of Burlington for many years coming here in 1877 but moved to Arkansas about nine years ago, and that state has since been his home. He is survived by two sons, Marion E. Budd, of Burlington, and Oliver H. Budd of Youngstown, Ohio, and one daughter, Mrs. Ruie Swearingen of Siloam Springs, Arkansas. One son, Bert, and one daughter Mrs. W. B. Nickel, are dead. The pall bearers at the service here were old soldiers and old friends.
Relatives here from a distance for the funeral are Mr. and Mrs. Oliver H. Budd of Youngstown, Ohio, Mrs. Ruie Swearingen of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Mrs. Wm. Morris and son Bill and the baby from Topeka.
